Our story
PSA Zeebrugge
For 25 years, PSA Zeebrugge has been building a strong reputation as a reliable partner for customers in the forest and paper sector. What started as a dedicated hub for forest products has now grown into a fully-fledged, multifunctional, and multimodal terminal connecting Scandinavia with Northwest Europe and the Iberian Peninsula.
25 years of PSA Zeebrugge
1990's: Emergence of a multimodal distribution hub
In the 1990's, the Sea Ro consortium was established, and Zeebrugge became a multimodal distribution hub. The terminal site was reclaimed, and the Wielingendok, the quay walls, and the first rail warehouse were constructed.
2000: Opening
The brand-new terminal for paper and cardboard was officially opened in 2000.
2009: PSA Zeebrugge
Due to increasing volumes, three additional warehouses were added in 2005. In 2009, the partners of the Sea Ro consortium parted ways, and the terminal was renamed PSA Zeebrugge. The products primarily consisted of newsprint and pulp. Gradually, the amount of newsprint decreased. Forest products remained important, accounting for 90% of the storage space. At the same time, an increasing variety of other goods started arriving, such as cars, breakbulk, and trailers.
2020: Scale-up
From 2020 onwards, Zeebrugge had to adapt to the increasing scale of shipping lines such as DFDS, CLdN, Finnlines, and Wallenius SOL, which began using mega Ro-Ro vessels. PSA Zeebrugge invested in a new pontoon for the longer and wider vessels, as well as new canopies for weather-independent storage of transhipment cargo.
Today
Today, Zeebrugge employs around 40 office staff and 190 dockworkers, who handle 5 million tons of cargo annually.
The goal for 2025 is to renew the machinery fleet. To achieve this, the 3-ton and 5-ton forklifts will be electrified. Additional covered space for transshipment cargo will also support increased volumes.
